Martin Roberts says illness is 'a mystery' as he gives health update after hospital dash

Martin Roberts' illness is still a "mystery" after he was rushed to hospital with "hours to live".

The Homes Under The Hammer star panicked fans yesterday when he revealed he was sent straight to hospital with breathing problems, where they found out he had an issue with his heart and it had fluid around it.

He was sent straight in for an emergency operation, and he now believes he might not have been here anymore if he didn't go to hospital, as he offered fans an update on how he was doing.

Martin appeared on Channel 5's The Jeremy Vine Show from hospital in Bath as he admitted it was a close call.

Explaining what happened to him as he made an appearance on the programme, he said: "They took out a litre and a half of fluid and that was pushing the heart, stopping it from expanding, which it needs to do to send blood around the body."

"I got brought in at midday and at five o'clock I was having an emergency operation with a tube in my body. They pulled out a whole litre and a half of fluid," he added, as he explained about his health to presenter Jeremy Vine.

However, Martin admitted the cause of the illness is still a mystery to doctors.

He added: "Now they're just working on what caused it. They still don't know so they're doing some more investigations. But the message is, if you have breathing problems, if you have a pain in your chest, especially blokes - we're terrible at it.

"Do you know what? If I didn't go to hospital, I might have been dead Jeremy."

Martin revealed the news of his hospital dash yesterday in a video he shared with fans on social media.

"Well, I have to say this isn’t where I expected to be watching Homes Under the Hammer," he said, "Little bit of good news, little bit of bad news. I ended up in hospital in Bath yesterday. I had a few chest pains and just feeling generally lousy, so I was brought in here and turns out I had a massive amount of fluid all around my heart, which was actually stopping my heart working.

"Had they not got rid of it, which they did in an emergency operation last night, then it’s sort of quite serious, like, hours to live kind of c***. So here I am, still around, thank goodness, thank god and angels, all those things."
