Homes Under The Hammer presenter Martin Roberts is best known for his opinions on property, wearing patterned shirts and his 'piano playing' hand movements. Now he's taking part in The Big Celebrity Detox on E4 and he says during filming his late mum spoke to him.
Martin appeared on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch on Sunday, May 14 to chat about The Big Celebrity Detox and told hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer he was getting goosebumps talking to them about feeling that his mum was "in the room". He said: "At one point I felt like my mum, who died 20 years ago - and her death has been a really important part of my life - it felt like she was in the room and everybody felt it."
He explained that two other celebrities in the show had to play-act being Martin and his mum. Toby Aromolaran, a former Love Islander, who was play-acting Martin, turned away from Chloe Veitch, who was playing Martin's mum, and this upset Martin. He said: "I was getting really upset and I was saying 'I'd never have my back to my mum. I'd never turn my back on my mum'. But she was really ill for a long period of time, she was really ill, she had a stroke at 46, in those early years I don't think I did enough to support her. That classic what do you do as a child to support your parents. She came down, she said in that moment through Chloe, 'you did what you could' and everybody felt this moment."
The Big Celebrity Detox will begin on E4 at 9pm on Monday, May 15.
