Martin Odegaard slams ‘stupid’ Arsenal errors in West Ham draw: ‘We should have done a lot better’

Martin Odegaard has spelled out his disappointment at Arsenal’s sloppy display against West Ham.

An early two-goal lead, of which the Norwegian scored the second, was thrown away on Sunday in what could prove a pivotal moment in the title race.

Said Benrahma scored a first-half penalty after Thomas Partey lost possession in his own half moments before Gabriel fouled Lucas Paqueta in the box, and Jarrod Bowen hit the leveller shortly after the break.

“The way we started the game was so good, we controlled everything,” Odegaard said to Sky Sports.

“Then we let them play on their qualities and we started to do stupid things with the ball.

“We let them play long balls, they got a long of corners and throw-ins. We should have done a lot better.”

Arsenal hold a four-point lead over Manchester City having played a game more in the Premier League title fight, and next host Southampton on Friday before a trip to the Etihad Stadium.

“We have to make sure it’s not a problem,” he continued. “We have to come back tomorrow on the training ground and be ready for the next game.

“That’s all that matters now, the next one. We have to come back on Friday and win.”
