Martin Odegaard sheds light on Mikel Arteta's exciting 'three-month plan' at Arsenal

Arsenal star Martin Odegaard has admitted he is optimistic over the future as a result of Mikel Arteta's three-month plan that has seen the Gunners manager keep a close eye on the Norway international.

Odegaard has played a starring role in the last two wins over top four rivals Chelsea and Manchester United in performances that have come just days after Arteta admitted he has been working extra closely with the mercurial playmaker.

The Arsenal boss values Odegaard's role in the team incredibly highly and can often be seen using the former Real Madrid man as the player to dish out wider tactical instructions to the rest of the team during games.

Speaking to Norwegian outlet TV2, Arteta opened up on the training his midfielder has recently undergone in his quest to improve even further. The Spaniard is working incredibly closely specifically with Odegaard. "What we are working on now, you will see in three months or six months," Arteta explained.

"What Martin is doing now, you do not see on the field now. We see it in three months, six months or a year.

"Right now you may see the results of some of what he has been working on for the last six months. People said that he was unstable, that he could not do this and that, but then he filled out the form to be ready now."

Odegaard himself has since responded to his manager's claims and shed light on the level of detail that goes into Arteta's training methods. "I think he means that what we are working on now may be hard to see for the next few weeks but with time it will show," the Norway skipper told Stadium Astro.

"It is just about the hard work we do, we work on small details every day and talk about how to find the right spaces, to position the body to receive the ball, where to attack and how to link up with other players - we are working on a lot of things and hopefully we see all that in the future.

Odegaard was then pressed for more detail on Arteta's methods and whether there was one aspect of the training that he is excited to see come to fruition in the coming weeks as Arsenal aim to hold their nerve and finish inside the top four.

"It is hard to say just one thing, every day there is always something to learn from him and there are so many details and different ways of thinking so I just tried to lean as much as possible and to listen to the small details about how to position the body, how to turn and how to move away with the ball - we work on that every day," he explained.

Arsenal currently occupy fourth spot after back to back wins, but the games aren't getting any easier and Odegaard will have to recreate the kind of heroics he delivered against West Ham last season again on Sunday when the Gunners make the short tip across London to face the Hammers.
