Martin Odegaard: Arsenal captain could make Norway squad after return from injury

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard may yet join up with Norway for their games against Slovenia and Kazakhstan next week - despite being left out of the initial squad.

Odegaard has been out injured since the start of September after injuring his ankle playing for Norway.

The midfielder is now back in training with Arsenal and has travelled with the squad for their Champions League clash at Inter Milan on Wednesday.

Odegaard was, however, left out of the Norway squad that was announced on Tuesday for next week’s Nations League games against Slovenia and Kazakhstan.

Norway manager Stale Solbakken said the country’s captain may join up at later date, though, and a final decision will be made after Arsenal have played Chelsea on Sunday.

“We follow the situation day by day,” Solbakken is quoted as saying by Norwegian outlet VG.

“As of now, Martin is not 100 percent ready to play, but we are in daily contact with both him and Arsenal. Then a decision will be made on that after the weekend.”

Odegaard has missed 12 games for Arsenal and it was put to Solbakken that the club will want him to rest during the upcoming international break.

“We can’t start with those theories now,” he said. “We are in contact with Arsenal every single day. Both we and Arsenal are interested in him recovering.”
