Martin O'Neill congratulated his son-in-law after being nominated for an Academy Award on Tuesday.
Cinematographer James Friend is married to O'Neill's daughter and is up for the prize after working on Netflix flick All Quiet on the Western Front.
The war film has been met with rave reviewers and earned a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and Friend is nominated for Best Cinematography.

And ex-Celtic and Republic of Ireland manager O'Neill took to social media to congratulate Friend and all the crew.
He said: "What a wonderful day!!! Huge congratulations to my son-in-law James Friend for his cinematography #Oscar nomination for his superb work on #AllQuietOnTheWesternFront #Netflix . Brilliant film and brilliant filmmaking team, well done everyone involved."
And there is a good chance the film could scoop the top award as it currently is listed as bookmaker favourite.
It was a record-breaking day for the Irish when it came to Academy Award nominees with The Banshees of Inisherin leading the way.
The film is up for Best picture as well as Best Original Screenplay and director Martin McDonagh is up for Best Director.
Actors Kerry Condon, Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan are all up for acting awards and as too is Aftersun star Paul Mescal.
An Cailin Ciuin has been nominated for Best International Feature Film while Jonathan Redmond is nominated for Best Editing for Elvis.
Richard Baneham is up for Best Visual Effects with Avatar while An Irish Goodbye is up for Best Live-Action Short.
