Martin Lewis urges followers to do one thing ahead of energy price cap rise

Martin Lewis has been championing the UK public for years, and never more so than in recent weeks as the cost of living crisis continues to hit hard.

On Friday, regulator Ofgem announced that the price cap would increase from £1,971 to £3,549 for the average household starting in October. An average household is considered to be one that uses 12,000 kWh of gas and 2,900 kWh of electricity in a year.

With many of us already struggling to cope amid the cost of living crisis, the price hike comes as frightening news. Mr Lewis is now urging the government to act as he fears people will lose their lives this winter.

Many concerned people are eagerly following the Money Saving Expert founder's advice in these desperate times. And on Tuesday, he shared an update with his many social media followers.

Taking to Twitter, Mr Lewis said he had drafted an explainer article on the energy price cap rise. He also urged people to sign up to his MSE emails - as that's where people can read it.

He said: "Just finished my first draft of what turned out to be 12 must-knows on the energy price cap rise. It'll be in this week's MSE email (if you don't get it, it free, and you want it, go to moneysavingexpert.com/site/money-tips-email-faqs )".

People were quick to thank him for his efforts. Sue Henderson said: "Thank you. I know it cost you to put this together when you want to be resting and gathering yourself. Your reward is that you're truly helping people. Now help yourself."

NEThorpes said: "One of the few emails I read thoroughly every week and don't delete either immediately or later. Find it is often invaluable in our house & we thank you for it." Kim Shepherd said: "Thanks. Far more efficient that our non functioning and disinterested government".
