Money Saving guru Martin Lewis declared he wanted all his ITV viewers to spend £1 - a departure from his usual 'how to save cash' rhetoric. However, in usual Lewis style, there is a reason for this statement and at the heart of the advice was a 'spend to save' hack.
The consumer champion was back on our TV screens on Tuesday, January 10. Speaking during his ITV Martin Lewis Money Show, he offered advice to film goers as he shared a £1 'trick' that could be accessed through price comparison site Compare the Market.
Mr Lewis said that while the hack would mean an initial outlay of £1, it would get you buy-one-get-one free cinema tickets for a whole year. According to Birmingham Live, he explained that all you need to do is go to the price comparison site and take out a single day's travel insurance. Prices start at £1 - but the policy will then qualify you for two-for-one cinema tickets for an entire year.

The news website also noted that Martin had pointed out another money saving way to see your favourite film on the big screen. He said: "Five Vue cinema tickets, £20 via Groupon, or 2 for £9, 10 for £38.
"Check your local cinema prices to see if it would be a saving, some only cost a fiver, some cost £12." He added: "Use any day, on a 2D film until the 14th of March, so that could be Avatar 2. You don't have to use it all in one trip, you can split it across trips." Continuing that it makes "the five Vue cinema tickets relatively cheap".
Martin went on: "By the way, the easiest way to get that is to get £1 daily UK travel insurance, and then you get the 2-for-1 cinema tickets for a year without having to get anything else with that."
He added that there is no requirement to use the tickets all at once either, meaning they can be split over several trips. However, the offer won't last forever as it is only valid up until March 16.
