Martin Lewis shares who may pay higher energy prices than others

Martin Lewis has issued an energy price update ahead of the next cap in October.

The finance guru has been keeping his many followers up-to-date with the latest news as the cost of living crisis worsens. Mr Lewis is known for his switching and money-saving tips, but recent events have left even him at a loss at how to help people.

The Money Saving Expert founder took to Twitter on Monday to update his many followers on how much energy will cost from October 1.

He said: "NEWS: The new 1 Oct price guarantee average direct debit rates have been announced. Electricity: Unit rate: 34.00p per kWh. Standing charge: 46.36p per day.

"Gas: Unit rate: 10.30p per kWh. Standing charge: 28.49p per day."

This up from 28.34p per kWh, and a standing charge of 45.34p per day for electricity, and 7.37p per kWh, and a standing charge of 27.2p per day for gas, under the current price cap - which came in on April 1, according to the MSE website.

Mr Lewis continued: "This is just an average, rates are set by region." He added that people who pay by direct debit or on receipt of bills will "likely" be charged a few percent more.

Martin also explained that the "standing charges have hardly moved this time", adding: "The big jump was in electricity standing charge back in April. Much of the jump was to cover the cost of the 20+ failed companies, but there was a little for green levy, and electricity transportation costs."
