Martin Lewis has shared easy money-saving advice that everyone can do to save some cash. The finance guru has been very vocal in offering support to the public throughout the cost of living crisis. Even though at times the situation has been so bad it has left him "lost from words", the founder of Money Saving Expert (MSE) hasn't run out of helpful tips yet. Writing on Twitter, Martin revealed how making one simple change to your boiler could save you money.
He shared a link to the Money Saving Boiler Challenge website - which is not linked to Martin himself or MSE - to encourage his followers to make the change. So far, more than 26,000 people have joined the challenge. It includes step by step instructions on how to do it, so there's no need to be intimidated.

The website states that if 10 million people follow this simple trick, it could wipe £1 billion off UK energy bills. It reads: "If 10 million households turned down the flow temperature on their combi boilers to 60°c or below this could wipe £1 billion off UK energy bills and save 1.7 million tonnes of carbon emissions – the equivalent of nearly six million transatlantic flights."
According to the Money Saving Boiler Challenge, turning down a single setting will make your boiler work more efficiently, saving around £112 a year for the average household. It will also help you to reduce your carbon emissions. The hack works for people with combi boilers - but that is most people in the UK. There are 15 million homes in the country with this type of boiler.
It states: "The average UK gas boiler produces about the same carbon emissions in a year as taking seven translantic flights. Take this simple action to reduce energy waste from your home."
For the country and individual households to reap the benefits, the challenge encourages everyone to tell their friends and family. The website continues: "Many combi boilers are burning more gas, generating more carbon emissions and costing households more than they need to. People could be saving energy and money simply by ensuring their boiler is running as efficiently as possible. But many people aren’t aware they can change their boiler settings."
