Martin Lewis issued a bleak warning for the British public following Boris Johnson's resignation.
Following his speech yesterday, the Prime Minister said he intends to remain in office until his successor is elected, a process which could take months, prompting a backlash from party grandees and political opponents over his attempt to "cling on" in No 10 until the autumn.
While the Prime Minister was intent on showing he was still in charge - even if only temporarily - his potential successors began setting out their stalls.

In an unapologetic resignation statement, Mr Johnson said he had fought to stay on because of a sense of "duty" to the "millions of people who voted for us" in 2019 when he won a landslide election victory.
Mr Johnson told his new Cabinet in a meeting on Thursday afternoon the Government will now focus on the agenda on which it was elected, and not seek to implement new policies or make major changes of direction.
He said major fiscal decisions should be left for the next Prime Minister, No 10 said. However, Martin issued a grave warning to the British public and UK government, saying we are due for a 'bleak winter'.
Martin said : "I would really urge speed from the Conservatives to get through their process and politely ask them, get a new leader in place.
"And the reason is quite simple, I'm afraid you have underestimated what is coming Kate. We are heading for a very bleak winter.
"It doesn't feel it now, the sun is shining, it's a nice time, it's easy to forget what is going on with energy bills."
Martin said he predicted that by October, energy bills on average will be over £3,000, compared to two years ago when the cheapest energy bill was around £800.
He added: "Let's be under no uncertain terms, what we are facing is potentially cataclysmic, we are talking about millions, if not 10 million people moving into real poverty this winter.
"The worst winter we have seen, maybe since the 1970s."
Martin criticised the government for acting too slow and urged them to act now. He said: "Winter is coming, energy bills are going up on October 1 and we need people in place."
