Martin Lewis shares how Sky customers can save nearly £500 a year on their bill

People's champion Martin Lewis has shared how Sky customers can save nearly £500 a year.

As the cost of living soars, energy prices rise and broadband providers hike their prices up with the rate of inflation, the Money Saving Expert has urged Sky customers to act after his advice saved one customer £492 a year.

He outlined the top tip while co-presenting with Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain during his Cost of Living Special.

During the live programme, a man messaged in to say how Lewis’ tip saved him £41 a month on his Sky package.

Martin encouraged viewers to phone Sky and ask to be put through to cancellations. This department will be keen to keep customers rather than lose them.

He added that it was worth looking at a range of internet and TV packages elsewhere. The Money Saving Expert said that many people could benefit from cancelling their Sky package, choosing a cheaper broadband-only deal and seeing if they can fulfil their TV needs elsewhere.

The Daily Express reported that during the show, newsreader Charlotte Hawkins said messages were already coming in from viewers thanking him for his valuable tips.

She said: “Just to say reaction coming in already to all of your advice.

“Richard sent a message in from Twitter and said he’s just contacted Sky and managed to reduce his bill by £41 a month by doing exactly what you said so he’s very grateful.”

This added up to a staggering saving of £492 a year.

This comes as BT, EE, Plusnet and Vodafone will all push up broadband prices by the inflation rate plus 3.9 per cent, while TalkTalk will add inflation and an additional 3.7 per cent.

The average rise for Sky customers is expected to be around five per cent. Sky Broadband Essential will rise from £25 to £27.50 while Sky Broadband Superfast will rise from £28 to £30.50.
