Martin Lewis shares hotel summer holiday tip to save £200 even after you've booked

Martin Lewis has revealed how holidaymakers can save up to £200 even after they have already booked.

The financial expert explained that people should watch hotel prices to see if they fall before they are due to leave on holiday. If they do, and your current booking allows you to cancel for free, then you can get a refund and book at the lower price.

This could help those who are on a tight budget this summer season, particularly as the cost of living crisis continues to worsen — affecting households across Scotland.

Lewis stated: "If the price of your hotel has dropped and your booking allows free cancellation, simply rebook for less. Check the latest prices on comparison sites Skyscanner, Kayak, and TripAdvisor - and keep checking before you go.”

Responding with her own success story, one woman said: "I saved £200 when the price dropped two days before travel."

As reported by The Mirror, this tip does not work with hotels that charge a cancellation fee. You should therefore check what the policies of your accommodation are before attempting the hack.

Lewis also warned holidaymakers to double check the expiry date on their passport. This is due to the fact that, after Brexit, UK travellers are no longer able to visit EU countries if their passport is about to expire.

According to Schengen area rules, your passport needs to be under 10 years old on the day you arrive, and must be valid for at least three months after the date you intend to leave. Other countries, such as the US and Australia, state that you must have at least 6 months left on your passport.

Earlier this week, Lewis issued an urgent warning regarding a scam that has seen victims lose £12,000 on average. The scam involves criminals pretending to be celebrities such as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Holly Willoughby, and even Lewis himself.
