Martin Lewis shares DWP benefit advice after payment date confusion

Martin Lewis has shared advice regarding Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) benefit payments and offered clarification and what to do if you have yet to receive money you are due.

With the cost of living crisis continuing to worsen and energy bills rising, millions of people across Scotland and the UK are stretching their budgets further than ever.

Those who are struggling financially may be due financial aid from the UK Government. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the help on offer ranges from cost of living payments to energy discounts.

As a result, it can be difficult to know what discounts and payments you qualify for. For those confused, Lewis provided clarification on the latest episode of The Martin Lewis Money Show.

Speaking on the ITV show, the financial expert stated: "You've got the second automatic payment for people on benefits which is £324 when...for most people it will be paid between November 8 and 23. Only people who are on working tax credit or child tax credit, and don't get any other benefits, may get it a bit later.

"To be eligible for this, you have to have been claiming one of the eligible benefits between August 26 and September 25 and you're due it even if you didn't get the first payment." He added: "There is also the £15 Warm Home Discount for many people due to be paid soon which is for those on means-tested benefits."

The MoneySavingExpert founder also spoke about how pensioners may be eligible for a cash boost in the winter, continuing: "If there is a state pensioner living in a household between September 19 and 25, that's the eligibility date. Then, there will be £300 paid to that household - it will be automatically paid on top of the Winter Fuel Payment of £100 to £300 which depends on age and other factors."

Meanwhile, many people who qualify for payments such as the Disability Cost of Living Payment have yet to receive them and are unsure what steps to take.

A member of the public asked Lewis: "I haven't received my £150 disability payment. I've even had a letter from the DWP stating I am entitled to it. What can I do?"

In response, Mr Lewis explained that this is a common complaint he's been seeing on social media. He stated that he asked the DWP and had finally received an answer.

Mr Lewis stated that the DWP told him that "most people in that circumstance will be because their payment has bounced and they will be trying to repay it but if you're not getting it and you think you are entitled to it, do check the eligibility criteria. There is a form on GOV.UK that people can fill in to make sure that they're going to get it."
