Martin Lewis sends 'damage limitation' vow amid Good Morning Britain presenter shakeup

ITV has announced Martin Lewis will return to host Good Morning Britain.

The Money Saving Expert will front the ITV news programme every Monday throughout September. The finance guru hosted a Good Morning Britain cost of living special in March alongside Susanna Reid.

The broadcasting team will be reunited for the episodes next month as the UK faces an economic crisis. Shock forecasts have predicted energy bills will rise higher than initially predicted as the cap is expected to soar over £5,000 in April.

Martin has provided people with tips to help navigate the crisis and vowed to do his all to offer "damage limitation" advice. He said: "I’ve been the Money Saving Expert for over 20 years – and in that time I’ve never seen anything like the cost of living crisis hitting the nation today, focused around the sickening rises in energy bills. Millions of families risk being forced into poverty by it.

“Sadly right now the best I can hope to offer many of those families is damage limitation, only the politicians have the power to provide actual solutions. So sitting alongside Susanna each Monday, I’m glad GMB is giving us a dual purpose of practical help and holding power to account.”

Susanna Reid regularly presents Good Morning Britain from Monday - Thursday. She is currently enjoying a well-deserved summer break but said she is thrilled to have Martin as a co-host to start off the week when she returns.

She said: "I’m delighted to have Martin by my side on Mondays this September tackling such an important issue head on. People are being forced to make impossible decisions and may not know where to turn, so tune in for some advice, support and hope.”

The episodes have been dubbed " Martin's Money Mondays " and the show's editor said it is important Good Morning Britain does something to tackle cost of living crisis, which he branded the "most pressing concern for everyone in the UK right now".

Neil Thompson said: "We want to do what’s best by our viewers - and there’s no-one better than our very own Martin Lewis to help navigate what is, sadly, set to be a very, very tough winter.

“With his expert knowledge every Monday, he'll be joining Susanna Reid to give our audiences the best tips and practical advice to try to take the edge off the difficult days ahead.”
