Martin Lewis rejects Susanna Reid calling him a 'hero' as he calls it 'sad'

Martin Lewis wasn't overly impressed with praise received from Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain today.

The Money Live Show presenter appeared on the ITV talk show to chat to hosts Susanna and Richard Madeley. He gave his verdict on what he thought the UK could expect following Chancellor Jeremy Hunt's emergency announcement later today.

As his segment was coming to an end, Susanna announced that Martin Lewis' Money Show Live would be returning to ITV this week. She went on to praise him for all of his excellent work - but it was not well received by the money expert.

Susanna said: "You're the hero we need right now and the trophy shelf behind you says the same thing. I know that you're modest. We don't need to be."

But rather than looking pleased, Martin shook his head. He repeated: "No."

The Money Saving Expert added: "No, well look. We as journalists, our job is just to do the job and get the facts out there and I think that would be pretty sad if that made you a hero, to be quite honest with you."

Martin won a National Television Award last week as he beat national treasure David Attenborough in the expert category. He was "shocked" as he accepted the award after not expecting to win.

Taking to the stage to accept the award, Martin said: "Wow." He was then speechless for a moment as the crowd cheered and hollered and he took that moment to take a bow.

He went on to thank his team on the Martin Lewis Money Show and his website's team. Martin added: "It's been a horrible year financially. I mean the energy crisis has been disastrous and has left many people with terrible issues and mental health problems." The money mogul added that next year may be just as bad, as he said: "We need somebody that can get a grip on the economy and put things a little bit better."
