Martin Lewis' MSE shares bargain site to score 30p Heinz Beanz and 9p cereal

Shoppers could make huge savings on groceries by picking up products that are past their best before dates.

Some may not realise that unlike a use by date, products that have past their best before can often be safely consumed and sold. And in their most recent newsletter, Martin Lewis' MSE has shared a website that sells reduced items that are near or passed their 'best before' date.

The site is called Approved Food, and could save shoppers a good amount of cash on food that they will eat fairly soon after buying.

Right now, the website has three Schweppes Orange Juice bottles for 99p - or 39p each - and a Kit Kat Multipack for 75p.

It comes as some supermarkets begin to remove 'best before' dates on items in a bid to reduce the amount of food going to waste.

According to The Food Standards Agency, 'best before' dates refer to the quality of the food and not the overall safety.

Reena Sewraz, Which? Money Expert, recently said: "Pay attention to use-by and best before dates and take advantage of fresh foods that can be frozen to avoid wasting food."

It comes amid record high food inflation, which reached 17.1 percent in February. Kantar, the data and insights company which published the February food inflation figures, said that "the numbers speak for themselves".

The report said shoppers who do not change their habits by reducing food waste and opting for more bargain options could expect to face annual grocery bills that are £811 higher than they would have been a year ago.
