Martin Lewis was back at the helm of Good Morning Britain as part of a new weekly appearance alongside Susanna Reid. The Money Saving Expert founder is no stranger to the ITV news programme.
But rather than just seeing him host the show, throughout September he'll join Susanna for 'Money Mondays' as they offer viewers the most up-to-date information regarding the Cost of Living crisis while also "holding politicians to account".
Opening Monday's show, Susanna welcomed viewers to the show before giving a run down of the main news headlines. Martin then explained how he'll be on hand to help viewers with their questions surrounding the rising energy costs.
"It's very good to be back," Susanna later said. "And it's good to see you back by the way," she added as she turned to Martin. "It's nice to be back," he admitted before speaking about the momentous occasion of the day as the country's new leader is announced.
"What the country needs now more than anything else is an active government," Martin said. "And I hope that starts today." Susanna then joked how the weather felt like a metaphor after people across the country were woken by thunder and lightening in the early hours.
Returning to her co-host, Susanna said: "Not all heroes wear capes, this one doesn't wear a tie," referring to the ongoing debate around Martin's TV attire. While he pulled a face at being called a 'hero', he did say, "That's true," to the tie decision.
But as they got stuck into helping viewers with their queries during the show, Martin refused to read out messages from some, claiming the tone was so despairing it "wouldn't be responsible" to air them.
The 50-year-old said referring to energy bills: "What you're hearing from that school - a trebling, and I've heard worse than trebling. A trebling is a shadow of what is likely to come to households unless more help comes through."
Susanna said: "So, new Prime Minister, once you're installed - we need action. Urgently. Because the tone of some of the messages we are receiving this morning is, let's say, downbeat..." Sounding sombre, Martin added: "There are people at such a level of despair that it would not be responsible for us to read them out on air."
Susanna said: "We need some hope. We need some action," before positively adding: "And hopefully we'll get that in the next few hours."
Meanwhile, GMB viewers had another job for Martin after seeing him back on screen. @sharonh40971181 tweeted: "@gmb shouldn’t Martin Lewis be in government running the final affairs of our country ?… I’ve more faith in him than those in the running #gmb." @HelenMackie27 echoed: "Can the government employ you to sort it out Martin? #GMB."
