Martin Lewis left emotional as woman thanks him live on air after battling debt

Consumer champion Martin Lewis was left with tears in his eyes during Thursday night's live episode of ITV's The Martin Lewis Money Show.

A loyal viewer of the show joined the virtual audience and from the start looked extremely happy and grateful to be there.

The episode was dedicated to helping people get out of debt and Debbie, who never misses the show, revealed she had been consumed by debt and thanked Martin for turning her life around.

Debbie explained that she had multiple credit card debts and was at her lowest point after her bank told her that she would have to declare herself bankrupt.

However, after always tuning in and listening to Martin's top tips, Debbie put them into practice.

In a previous episode, the financial guru discussed fluid 0 percent credit cards and Debbie applied for one, and 'miraculously' was accepted.

This got the ball rolling, transferred the balanced of her two highest credit card bills onto the new one - which is specifically aimed at assisting people with poor credit ratings and has an offer of nine months 0 percent interest.

Debbie then revealed that after nine months, she is now debt free, was able to save for Christmas thanks to a bonus at work and has even booked a holiday to Cyprus to see her brother.

Debbie whole heartedly expressed her gratitude to Martin.

With a smile and at times teary eyes, Debbie said: "I went to my bank, they declined to help me. Absolutely devastated, lowest point in my life.

"I watched one of your programmes around this time last year and I did exactly what you said, I didn't give up hope. I've been declined so many times by different lenders. I applied for a fluid 0% credit card.

"Miraculously they approved and that was the turning point in my life. I moved my two highest credit cards on to them like you told me to. I got my overdraft taken off and I'm now completely debt free.

"I got a £30 a month pay rise from my work I bank that every week and that went towards Christmas this year, and I've been able to book a holiday in Cyprus to see my brother. Martin thank you so much because, if I didn't watch you all the time, I would not have had that faith to just try once more."

Welling up, Martin then replied: "I'm so grateful! Time and patience can really help."

He then took that opportunity to share that Virgin Money and HSBC are currently offering interest free credit cards for up to 35 months.

Later in the episode he also gave advice to people who are in serious debt and need one to one support.
