Martin Lewis' latest energy advice as prices could surge amid Ukraine invasion

Martin Lewis has given an update on what he thinks people should do next as energy prices could become even higher due to the Ukraine invasion.

While the UK is not as dependent as other European countries on Russian gas, Britons will still feel the effect of a rise in global prices, which could lead to a further £700 hike in the price cap this October, reports the Daily Mail.

As other countries try to find others sources to replace Russian gas, the price will be driven up, with Ofgem warning this could lead to a further £700 rise in the price cap this October, on top of the near-£700 rise coming into effect on April 1.

The soaring costs are expected to push around a quarter of households into fuel poverty, the Resolution Foundation think tank has said.

Prior to the global energy crisis, customers would typically be encouraged to shop around for a cheap deal, instead of rolling on to the price cap.

But Martin Lewis has recently said there is currently no fixed rate on the open market that beats the energy price cap

Speaking on Thursday, amid news of the Ukraine invasion, Mr Lewis said he was being asked by man whether they should "fix" their energy bills.

Taking to Twitter, he explained: "To many still asking me 'should I fix my energy bill?'

"With today's terrible, tragic Ukraine news, I simply don't know. While the dominant concern is the loss of life, it has huge economic knock-ons

"For now I'll stick with 'most stay on price cap' but I can't promise its right".
