Martin Lewis shares £1 tip that could save you hundreds of pounds

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has shared how spending £1 now could potentially save hundreds of pounds throughout the year. Martin, who founded the MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) website, is known for his tips to save and make money.

Martin's latest tip could save you hundreds of pounds in 2023. And as it only costs £1, near enough anyone can do it. The trick involves using comparison website Compare the Market and taking out a single day's travel insurance.

Prices start at £1, but the policy will then qualify you for two-for-one cinema tickets for an entire year. The consumer champion gave out the tip on his ITV programme The Martin Lewis Money Show.

He said: "I know people who use the Compare The Market/Compare the Meerkat trick. By the way, the easiest way to get that is to get £1 daily UK travel insurance, and then you get the 2-for-1 cinema tickets for a year without having to get anything else with that."

Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis also flagged another cinema deal on Groupon, which gives you five film tickets for £20. You can also get two tickets for £9 or ten for £38.

He urged: "Check your local cinema prices to see if it would be a saving, some only cost a fiver, some cost £12. Use any day, on a 2D film until the 14th of March, so that could be Avatar 2.

"You don't have to use it all in one trip, you can split it across trips." This offer runs until March 14. Some of the big name movies being screened now include Avatar: The Way of Water, Babylon, Magic Mike's Last Dance and Scream VI.

Earlier this week Martin Lewis issued a warning to anybody who uses broadband at home. He warned that prices are set to go up at the end of March, and urged people to get on the phone to their broadband suppliers before it's too late.

Martin explained during his ITV Money Show on Tuesday evening: “If they enact them this year, and the likelihood is they will, this could mean 15%ish hikes this spring.

“This usually happens in April for most of the major broadband providers, which is going to be another hit for many people. If you’re paying £40, that’s £6 a month extra. Even switchers’ deals will probably do this but of course, it’s £6 a month extra on £40 or if you pay £20 a month, it’s only £3 a month extra.”
