Martin Lewis in tears live on air over woman's debt story

Martin Lewis was reduced to tears during Thursday night's live episode of ITV's The Martin Lewis Money Show by a woman who thanked him for turning her life around after being at her lowest point.

In a special episode, focused on helping people get out of debt, Debbie revealed that she had been told by her bank that she might have to declare herself bankrupt due to crippling credit card bills.

But, having followed the TV presenter's advice after tuning into a previous show by applying for a fluid 0% credit card that she was approved for, Debbie revealed that she is now debt free and has even booked a holiday in Cyprus to visit her brother.

Debbie transferred the balances of her two highest credit card bills on to the new card, which is aimed at assisting people with poor credit ratings and has an offer of nine months' 0% interest, reports Yorkshire Live.

Expressing her gratitude for the life-changing guidance given by financial guru Lewis on a live video link, Debbie said: "I went to my bank, they declined to help me. Absolutely devastated, lowest point in my life.

"I watched one of your programmes around this time last year and I did exactly what you said, I didn't give up hope. I've been declined so many times by different lenders. I applied for a fluid 0% credit card.

"Miraculously they approved and that was the turning point in my life. I moved my two highest credit cards on to them like you told me to. I got my overdraft taken off and I'm now completely debt free.

"I got a £30 a month pay rise from my work I bank that every week and that went towards Christmas this year, and I've been able to book a holiday in Cyprus to see my brother. Martin thank you so much because, if I didn't watch you all the time, I would not have had that faith to just try once more."

With tears in his eyes, Lewis then replied: "I'm so grateful! Time and patience can really help."

He went on to point out that Virgin Money and HSBC are currently offering interest free credit cards for up to 35 months.

Elsewhere in the episode, he also explained how people can use 0% interest credit cards to move debt around cheaply.
