Martin Lewis fans fear he's 'broken' as he's asked 'is this intentional' over accidentally X-rated question

Martin Lewis has startled fans as his innocent question left them in stitches. The Money Saving Expert took to his social media to ask his 2.1 million followers a question on how they tend to eat a piece of chocolate.

The 50-year-old asked in the tweet: "When you eat a piece of chocolate from a chocolate bar, do you usually.. Crunch it and swallow it down pretty quickly or - Suck it so it melts in your mouth and lasts longer?"

Martin then gave his millions of followers four potential answers to choose from with two options for men and two options for women. The poll got more that 86,000 votes with hundreds of replies and comments.

And the results of the poll revealed that 'I'm male I swallow' was the most popular response. But as the poll led to a number of bemused responses, Martin replied to say that he had "no idea why", adding: "I’m just asking how you eat your chocolate!" alongside a smiley face emoji.

Among the responders was @GerardGroves who said: "Martin, was this intentional?" To which @Stevedubwin replied: "I had to check it wasn’t a ML parody account," and @redgoldrush said: "I had to check the date," seemingly wondering if it was an early April Fools Day prank.

Meanwhile, @Fiona_Lang34 said: "Okay, so I’ve read the question and answers three times… and I’m STILL giggling. I am such a child!" @AmyLou1009 commented: "I had to re-read what the poll was about, at least it gave me a little chuckle. Something I've not done in a while...." @VeeferVicky wrote: "I saw the answers before I saw the question and I was like, Martin....."

@mitchhirsty posted: "This actually made me giggle very loudly! A little bit too loudly #IseeWhatYouDidThere." @rob_heighton wrote: "I can't believe those options are a real poll from Martin Lewis." @CarolineJDraper laughed: "Tweet of the week @MartinSLewis." @Zoah_HS quipped: "I fear my idol has cracked under the strain of the cost-of-living crisis." @fpl_pie added: "Well done everyone. We've broken Martin Lewis."

Martin's tweet garnered a lot of attention (Martin Lewis Twitter)

It was announced last week that Martin will become a regular co-host of Good Morning Britain after various stints fronting the show as well as appearing to offer his crucial money-saving advice. GMB has announced that the financial journalist and consumer champion will join the show on various Wednesdays across the year, alongside long-term presenter Susanna.

Speaking about his new, more permanent role, Martin said: "To have the ability to hold politicians to account over the cost of living is a privilege and a responsibility. It's a slight gear change from my usual work, but after years of answering complex questions, it’s nice for once to be asking them. So I was delighted when ITV offered me the role of regular presenter.

“The difficulty came with working it around my day job, as money saving expert, which is always my priority. So I’m hopeful the solution we’ve come up with, to lock in a dozen special shows a year, sitting alongside Susanna Reid’s brilliant journalism, is one the show’s viewers will welcome."
