Martin Lewis has said people could be in line to save money by spending as little as 15p in supermarkets before Christmas. The financial journalist has advised people they could see huge savings by holding off buying some key festive items for just a bit longer.
Speaking on the Martin Lewis Podcast recently Mr Lewis explained that many products will be reduced to just 15p in most major supermarkets in the week leading up to Christmas Day. Known as 'loss leaders', these are deals which - as the name suggests - actually lose money for the big chains but which help them get people through the doors on Christmas week where they might end up spending more money.
Some of the main supermarkets have already announced their loss leader dates with others likely to shortly announce theirs, reports the MEN. You can get more cost-of-living news and money stories straight to your inbox by subscribing to our newsletters here.

"The Christmas vegetable price war - it's on," Mr Lewis said on the podcast. "15p carrots, potatoes, sprouts and more. Lidl has got them from Thursday December 15. Aldi from Sunday December 18 to Saturday December 24.
"Sainsbury's from Sunday December 18. It's at this point of the year these loss leaders are put on sale in the supermarkets to help people with their Christmas dinners to get you in store. Pretty much all of them do it - those are the ones that are announced so far but I expect many of the other supermarkets to pick them up soon too."
