Martin Lewis ends Good Morning Britain with key cost of living advice for panicked viewers

Martin Lewis ended his day as Good Morning Britain host with some key advice for viewers increasingly worried about the hike in energy prices and talk of a cost of living crisis.

Money saving expert Martin has had a number of stints as a guest presenter on GMB and on Wednesday joined Susanna Reid for a show that saw him answer a number of burning consumer questions including advice on prepaid meters, what to do if you are not eligible for automatic council tax rebate, as well as hitting home the reminder for all direct debit customers to take meter readings before April 1.

And, as Susanna thanked him for once again joining her on the ITV programme, Martin had a final message for those watching at home. He said: "My final word today; make sure you do a meter reading if you don't have a smart meter, today or preferably tomorrow. And if you're on prepayment on electricity, you may be able to top up a bit more now and keep the cheaper price for a little bit longer, but you need to so some reading on that."

He added: "Don't panic on this. If you're talking big picture cost of living, there is nothing...don't look at the big picture. But, line by line, everything you spend in a month; go through today and ask 'can I do better, can I do it cheaper?' Some of you will be able to."

Thanking Martin for his advice, one viewer took to Twitter to write: "Thank you Martin, let hope we manage through the most difficult times ahead of this future. Financially and mentally, we been through COVID and shielding alone, war and now a high increase in living." A second responded: "The whole country is surely grateful for @MartinSLewis. If knighthoods were awarded on merit, this man should definitely be honoured. Thank you Martin for speaking up for the most vulnerable."
