Martin Lewis donates to Doddie Weir charity as he celebrates 2 million followers

Martin Lewis has donated money to Doddie Weir's charity - MND - as he celebrates 2million social media followers.

The charity, set up by Doddie Weir himself along with friends, aims to raise funds to aid research into Motor Neuron Disease as well as supporting fellow sufferers.

The donation comes as Martin Lewis celebrated reaching two million followers on Twitter and promised to donated to charities of his followers choice.

Writing on the social media platform, he tweeted: "Wow I'm nearing 2m followers. So to say THANK YOU and promote small charities, I'll again donate:

  • £500 to charity picked by my 2000000th follower
  • £500 to charity of randomly picked existing follower who replies

"So pls reply with a charity, noting if you're a new or already follow."

Whilst stating that they "must have a UK charity number" the financial guru added: "Amazing to see so many great charities mentioned. And also to see those charities responding to people - hope its a positive way to connect the two when the third sector is really struggling at the moment."

It was then one new followers decided he wanted Martin to donate to Doddie's charity - and Martin did just that tweeting: "And this, to the best I could do, is my 2,000,000th follower - getting the final £500 donation as I promised."

In response, many people were thankful for the follower for choosing the charity and for Martin for selecting it.

One said: "Great stuff, my dad died in August from MND. Thank you for supporting them."

Another added: "A very deserving charity. Had a wee sob at the rugby yesterday seeing Doddie bring the match ball to the pitch again."

"Well deserving charity too. Thank you" wrote a third.
