Martin Lewis busts money saving use appliances overnight myth

More households are looking for ways to save money now more than ever amid the cost of living crisis. And while some techniques may be effective, others are simply untrue.

One rumoured way to save money on energy bills is to only use your appliances overnight, when some have claimed it is cheaper for power. Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis has now given his verdict on this advice.

Martin has firmly said this is not true for most people, and it will cost the same of use your appliances regardless of what time of day it is because in general power tariffs do not change depending on the time of day. However, he has acknowledged that this may be true for a small number of people who use specific types of meter.

The money expert says that households with a time-of-use meter, such as a Eco7 or Eco10, will be able to make savings. However, he reiterated that this is not the case for most households.

In a tweet, Martin wrote: "I've heard of a viral post telling people they can save money by using appliances overnight when it' 'cheaper' This ISN'T true for most. For that you need a time-of-use meter like Eco7 or Eco10 (you'll know if you've got one).

"For most tho, the cost's the same regardless of time."
