Martin Lewis announces 'long break' from GMB as he's replaced by Richard Madeley

Martin Lewis will be absent from our screens over the next few weeks.

The Money Saving Expert appeared on Good Morning Britain for the final time earlier this week, as he prepares to take a break from the ITV show to focus on another TV project - with the star putting his head in his hands as he answered a question about rising rents during his last cameo on the show for a while.

The current state of the economy means that landlords' sky-high mortgage repayments risk being passed on to tenants, thanks to the disastrous mini budget on September 23 that threatened to send mortgages skyrocketing with predictions that the Bank of England could raise interest rates to as high as six percent.

During Monday's edition of Good Morning Britain [October 12], viewer Sean sent a question in for Martin which was read out by Susanna Reid, which said: "If mortgages are going up, what does that mean for people who pay for their properties? Are rents going to go up too?"

As soon as Susanna said the word 'rent', the finance guru sighed and put his head in his hands.

After taking a moment, Martin responded: "Probably. You would assume that many people who own properties have mortgages on them so their costs are going up and they will want to pass them onto consumers.

"You can also assume that less people may be buying which will put more people into the rental market."

ITV viewers have been relying on Martin's advice on Good Morning Britain amid the ongoing Cost of Living crisis, but the financial expert is taking some time off from the popular breakfast show.

Revealing his news this week while interviewing Work and Pensions Minister Victoria Prentis about helping people with mental health conditions stay in work, Martin said: "The final question is from me.

""It's probably because my main evening television show is starting so I might not be on this programme for a while...

"I could do with your help please, because i'm very confused about what to tell people about the economy."

The presenter will be focusing on another ITV show, The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, over the next few weeks, on which the consumer champion will viewers vital money-saving tips.
