Martin Dubravka explains why he rejected offers from other clubs to join Manchester United

Martin Dubravka has revealed that he had a number of offers from other clubs before deciding to join Manchester United on loan from Newcastle United.

The 33-year-old lost his place as first-choice goalkeeper at Newcastle following the arrival of Nick Pope from Burnley in the summer.

Dubravka was forced to wait over two months for his Man United debut, which eventually came in a 4-2 victory over Aston Villa in the EFL Cup third round last month.

He has struggled for game time at Old Trafford with Erik ten Hag selecting David de Gea in the UEFA Europa League as well as the Premier League. Nevertheless, Dubravka insists that moving to Manchester was the right decision, despite interest from other clubs across Europe.

"You always have to be ready," Dubravka told manunited.com. "I'm trying to prepare as a normal game, it's up to the coach who he is going to pick, but I try to be fit.

"I had a couple of offers as well from abroad, and here in England in as well, which I considered. But, obviously when I had the chance to join Manchester United, it was quite simple for me. I wanted to join and want to be part of the process and part of this club. So I’m here now."

Dubravka initially joined Newcastle on loan from Sparta Prague in January 2018, before signing on a permanent basis that summer. He has played 130 times for Newcastle across his four-and-a-half seasons at St James' Park.
