Martin Compston says "there is still scope" for another Line of Duty series

Martin Compston has said there is "still scope" for another Line of Duty series.

Martin Compston, Adrian Dunbar and Vicky McClure wrapped up the last series of Line of Duty back in May 2021 but despite plenty of fans calling for more, the creators haven't confirmed anything new.

However, writer Jed Mercurio has regularly been spotted on Twitter mentioning Line of Duty in relation to the No. 10 Downing Street 'Party gate'.

And the iconic trio seem keen to get back to AC12.

Speaking to Chris Moyles on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, Greenock's Martin Compston has said he is just waiting to see what Mercurio says.

Moyles went straight in and asked: "Line of Duty, you still doing it? You’re not gonna bale?"

Martin replied: "We think so. Mate, I mean, look, I’m delighted with the response, in terms of people are now really intrigued to see if there is another one, but there's nothing changed for us in terms of where we're at after we finish a series.

"We always take, like, a year between at least…before we… the dust settles and Jed figures out whether there's a story to tell.

"So I'm delighted that people are so excited and so desperate to find out but, as I say, this is what we've done after every series so we'll just wait and see what he thinks."

Moyles pressed on: "But if Jed calls you up and goes “are you up for one more?”

Martin danced around the question a bit but emphasised how difficult filming the last series was due to Covid.

He said: "Look, there’s no way to… it's not an excuse to kind of go and do a show just because you want a night out or whatever, but it's such a sociable show in terms of us, pals, and going out with crew and all that stuff. And we filmed the last one during COVID and all that, and it was a tough shoot and kind of miserable, because we were one of the first jobs back and it was literally on set, nowhere near anybody, and then back to your flat.

"We couldn't even mix with each other. So I think for us, it wouldn't be nice to go out that way, we'd like to do one more with everybody and have it… but again that’s no reason to go…"

"Do one more! Do one more!", Moyles chanted.

To which Martin replied: "But, yeah, I think there’s definitely scope for it."

So it seems like Martin is up for another, it all lies with writer Jed Mercurio.

Even as Line of Duty has been off the air, Martin Compston has been busy as he featured, briefly, in BBC's Vigil, due to be on ITV's Our House and Amazon Prime's The Rig.

Tune into The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, weekdays from 6:30am – 10am and Saturdays 8am – 11am.
