Martin Compston has issued a heartfelt plea for fans to get involved ahead of Soccer Aid 2022.
The Greenock born actor is joined by celebrities Liam Payne, Lee Mack and Tom Grennan as well as Olympians Mo Farrah and Usain Bolt who will all take to the pitch for the charity event.
The self confessed cocky kid reminisced about kicking a ball after school with his mates, and playing games, stating that every child should have the opportunity to do that.
Taking to the pitch for the first time in the world’s biggest celebrity football match, include former One Direction singer Liam Payne as captain of the England team.
He will be joined by Dragon’s Den star Steven Bartlett, and comedians Munya Chawawa and Alex Brooker – who will become the first-ever physically disabled participant to take part in the game.
Speaking ahead of the charity match, Compston said: "I loved kicking a ball. That was basically all we did.
"Come home, drop your clothes. Get a ball, go out, kick until your mum shouted on you in.
"British bulldog was another one, your shins took a bit of doing with that but it was just camaraderie with your pals.
"Those bonds begin when you are kids and you are running about, scraping your knees.
"You can make fortresses out of walls and forts out of hill tops.
He added: "It is really important that kids have the opportunity to do that safely.
"Children should have the right to play.
"They should have the fundamental right to a normal life."
Soccer Aid for UNICEF returns to London this summer on Sunday 12 June, for the first time at the London Stadium featuring a special half time show from Robbie Williams.
