Martin Clunes was victim of awkward blunder during Queen's Jubilee celebration

Martin Clunes was the victim of an awkward blunder during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Celebration.

The popular actor, who is back on our screen tonight in a brand new series of Doc Martin, made an appearance during the special horse-themed event last month.

The Queen was seen clapping and laughing throughout the incredible A Gallop Through History show at the Royal Windsor Horse Show arena.

There was acting and musical performances alongside horse displays, with a special appearance from the Monarch's "favourite granddaughter", Lady Louise Windsor.

More than 1,300 performers and 500 horses were part of the evening's entertainment, including guests from Norway, Oman, Azerbaijan, Canada, India, France, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland.

A whole host of A-list stars took to the stage re-inacting key moments of royal history, but there was a mix-up involving Martin.

The 60-year-old Men Behaving Badly star got up on stage to present a segment of the special show.

Dressed glamarously in a tuxedo with a black bow tie, Martin spaid tribute to diplomatic, missionary and military organisations who spent centuries "discovering, exploring and creating trading parnters which have stood the test of time".

He said: "Captain Cook, Captain Franklin and Captain Bligh in their ships discovering the North West Passage, Australasia and Polynesia."

But viewers at home spotted a blunder pop up at he bottom of the screen while he was addressing the excited crowd.

Rather than his own name appearing, he was credited as being 'Damian Lewis OBE' during the liver performance.

Many viewers at home found this rather amusing and flocked to social media to point out the blunder and make jokes about it.

"Don't blame Martin Clunes. He is being played by Damian Lewis OBE tonight," said one joker.

Another added: "Since when did Martin Clunes change his name. This is dreadful."

"Can’t fault his dedication to the craft, he looks *just like* Martin Clunes here," joked a third.

While another mockingly made reference to one of Damian's roles, saying: "Is that the Martin Clunes that starred in Homeland and Billionaires?"

The little mistake was not enough to ruin the big event and viewers were thrilled to see the like of Omid Djalili, Alan Titchmarsh and Katherine Jenkins taking part.

The Queen's daughter Princess Anne was "visibly moved" when she watched an earlier version of the show on Saturday evening, telling host comedian Omid Djalili: "Mama will like this".

Tom Cruise was tasked with introducing another key moment of the evening, a performance by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.

He said: "It takes huge courage and discipline to do what they do, galloping with guns that were fired in the battles of the First World War, weighing one-and-a-half tonnes, with no brakes.

"The drive demonstrates absolute trust between horse and rider."

Although some viewers did moan that he was stealing all the limelight away from Her Majesty on her big night.

*Doc Martin airs tonight on ITV at 9pm
