More than 100 firefighters are battling a bushfire that has burned through more than 90 hectares of land in the suburb of Martin, in the City of Gosnells, east of Perth.
An emergency bushfire warning is in place for areas bounded by Canning Mills Road and Mills Road East to the south, the Powerline Track to the west, Suneca Road to the east, and Versteeg Grove to the north near Korung National Park.
Authorities are warning people in the area to act immediately to survive.
The blaze is moving in a westerly direction, with aerial water bombers helping firefighters on the ground with the out-of-control blaze.
Canning Road has been closed from Littleys Road to Pickering Brook Road, with only local traffic allowed from Littleys Road to Brookton Highway. Canning Mills Road is also closed from Brockway Road to Canning Road.
Residents have been advised to head west on Canning Mills Road to leave the area if they can.
Department of Fire and Emergency Services [DFES] incident controller Adrian Hammel said firefighters were attempting to reduce the flame while wind speeds have slowed.
"[We've] got a bit of a lull at the moment, so we've got a small window now [to] down the fire so when the winds pick up again we've taken this thing out," he told ABC Radio Perth.
"It's hit some low fuel load area. We're getting crews to really work and focus on putting that head fire out as best we can with aviation still up in the air.
DFES said 104 firefighters were battling the blaze and strengthening containment lines, and State Emergency Service personnel were also on the ground.
Kirup bushfire threat
A separate bushfire in the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup in WA's South West is also at emergency warning level.
There is a threat to lives and homes for people in the area bounded by Ravenscliffe Road and Upper Capel Road near Kirup.
This includes farms and homes on Nieuwenhuyze Road and Upper Capel Road.
The fire is moving fast in a north-westerly direction, and residents are advised to leave via Upper Capel Road towards Donnybrook.
WA Parks and Wildlife district fire coordinator Ed Hatherley said firefighters were focusing their efforts on farmland around Upper Capel Road, where there were a handful of properties.
"There are farm properties over on the western side, which are in the line of the fire," he said.
"We can't really suppress the fire currently in the forest, so the best place to try and catch it now is out of the forest and into the paddock. So that's where we're trying to maximise our control efforts."
He said stable winds were working favour of firefighters.
"It maintains the fire in a stable direction but it is going to be uncontained and uncontrolled and it's very intense at the moment in the forest."
Jan Louw said the fire had singed fenced posts on her property and was now threatening neighbours' properties further north.
"They've actually been told to leave, I've spoken to a couple of them and their cars are packed and ready to go, but I don't know if it's reached them or not."
