Martin Boyle Hibs road to recovery as star man 'making little goals' with eyes on new season

Martin Boyle has opened up on his injury recovery as he admitted: 'I'm making little goals'.

The Hibs star is currently working his way back from long-term injury as he looks to make his long-awaited return for the start of the new season. Lee Johnson suffered the major blow of losing one of his star men back in October with a knee injury - that also ruled him out of playing for Australia at the World Cup Finals in Qatar.

The 29-year-old is going through his rehab at present and says while he is a little 'frustrated' the recovery process is going 'well' and hopes to be back soon as he sets himself milestones along the way in order to regain his full fitness. Boyle recently joined his international team-mates Down Under with the Easter Road club sanctioning his trip. Johnson believed a change of scenery would do the fans' favourite the world of good and aid his return to the field.

On his journey so far, he said: "The recovery's going well. I'm a bit frustrated, going round in circles at the moment, but I'm keeping the right mindset, focused on where I want to be.

"I'm making little goals. I don't want to say them out loud, I don't want any setbacks. But it's going well and I'll hopefully be back soon.

"The physio team and staff are happy with my progress. I'm setting little goals but I don't want to set long-term targets. But I want to be on track for the start of the season."

Hibs face a huge weekend as they bid to secure a top six finish and then go on and challenge for European football next season.

Their destiny is in their own hands after last weekend's Edinburgh derby win over Hearts. Defeat St Johnstone and they know they are secured in the top half. But a draw or defeat and things could become more nervy with results needed elsewhere.
