Martin Boyle Hibs injury update as Lee Johnson provides 'a lot of hope' message

Lee Johnson has his fingers crossed that a scan for Hibs winger Martin Boyle comes back with good news.

The 28-year-old hobbled off during Saturday's 3-0 win over St Mirren - in which he scored the Premiership clash's opening goal - and has gone to England for scans on his leg. He is a shoe-in to be picked for Graham Arnold's Australia squad for Qatar 2022, which kicks off later this month, and will be desperate to prove his fitness ahead of the World Cup.

Johnson says that the early signs for Boyle have been optimistic ahead of Hibs' Friday night's match against Aberdeen but there had been no confirmed news or timeline as of yet. But with a specialist called in after Boyle's initial scan, the Hibs boss said: "We are just positive with him, we all live in hope that he’s in a good place.

"He seems to be moving well, although the scan is showing something, it seems, which is why he has gone to the specialist.

“He’s currently in Manchester getting that scan reviewed by a specialist and a consultant. I would hope that by this time on Thursday we will have a clear and acute diagnosis and prognosis on the injury.

“He is presenting well, which gives us a lot of hope. But at the same time we need real expert opinion.”
