Martial, Sancho, Ronaldo, Shaw — Manchester United injury latest ahead of Brighton fixture

Manchester United do not have a clean bill of health going into their first match of the Premier League season.

Erik ten Hag will manage his new United side in the Premier League for the first time on Sunday when Brighton visits Old Trafford but his task has been made tougher as he could be without several key players.

A few stars missed last weekend's final friendlies against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano while Anthony Martial has been ruled out of Sunday's game at the 11th hour. Here's where United stand on the injury front

Anthony Martial

Just as Martial looked prime to lead the line for United after a promising pre-season injury strikes at the worst possible time. The Frenchman has suffered a hamstring injury in training and is unavailable to face the Seagulls, with no return date given just yet.

When asked if Martial was unavailable, Ten Hag said: "Yes. It is always difficult to say with injuries [how long he will be out for]. I hope it is not for too long."

Expected return date: N/A

Cristiano Ronaldo

Though not at full match fitness, Cristiano Ronaldo is available and could now start after Martial's bad luck. The Portuguese is not at 100 per cent, though, as he missed the vast majority of pre-season due to family reasons amid his desire to leave Old Trafford.

Ten Hag said we will 'see on Sunday' when asked if Ronaldo would start before adding: "I am really happy. We have a top striker. He is here and is in the squad."

Expected return: August 7

Jadon Sancho

Sancho wasn't involved in the friendly against Atletico as expected after coming down with an illness but is expected to be back for the game.

Expected return date: August 7

Luke Shaw

Shaw also missed the trip to Oslo with illness but is expected to be in contention with Tyrell Malacia to start on Sunday.

Expected return date: August 7

Facundo Pellistri

The Uruguayan winger came on in the 76th minute against Atletico but then suffered a knock to his ankle, which had to see him limp off the field before the final whistle. The injury isn't expected to be serious and he could be involved against Brighton.

Expected return date: August 7
