Martha Stewart says this wreath has 'elicited the most comments' – her design is a surprisingly affordable and festive alternative to the traditional evergreen

Martha Stewart.

Leave it to Martha Stewart and take something we've seen hundreds of times and make it new again. The doyenne of homes took to Instagram to share her favorite Christmas wreath, and it's made entirely out of colorful ornaments.

Alongside a photo of the Christmas wreath, she shared: 'Of all my wreaths this one elicited the most comments. More than 40 inches in diameter, and composed of dozens of gorgeous ornaments, it completely dazzles at the side door!!' The huge circle integrates a variety of colorful metallic ornaments in different sides with pieces of silver tinsel sticking through. It instantly brightens her green-gray walls.

Martha's exact model was made by her colleague Kevin Sharkey, the Executive Director of Design at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, so it's impossible to create her look exactly, there are many similar Christmas decorations on the market. From equally colorful looks to a more monochromatic ornament wreath, it's easy to replicate her style with your own personal twist. Here are a few of our favorite options.

In addition to its obvious aesthetic benefits, Stewart's non-traditional Christmas decor idea has an added perk: its cost. Though the price may not seem very different from a classic wreath initially, this design will last year over year. Certainly compared to a fresh wreath, but even compared to faux evergreen, the baubled design is much more hearty. To store, be sure to purchase a wreath bag to keep dust and basement-inhabiting critters away from your beautiful decor so that it can last for years to come.

If you are considering replicating Stewart's wreath idea, consider choosing a color that coordinates with your Christmas tree for an extra cohesive and stylized look. I personally love the idea of an all-silver ornament wreath with a corresponding pink and silver Christmas tree, like the one in Kathy Hilton's home.

Just because Christmas comes around every year doesn't mean your decor has to be the same. Looking to talented DIYers, designers, and innovators in the home space, like Martha Stewart, is a great way to source inspiration for a unique holiday setup. An ornament wreath is the perfect place to start.
