Making flower arrangements in one of the greatest joys of spring, and we are taking cues from the one and only Martha Stewart on how to make the most gorgeous table displays of fresh blooms.
We recently stumbled upon a clip shared to the Martha Moments Instagram page (an incredible archive of vintage Martha videos), and it gave us some excellent tips on how to arrange daffodils – one of the best flowers to plant for spring.
'Some springtimes are better than others, and this spring the daffodils are amazing,' Martha explains in the clip, showing off a variety of the flower at her Turkey Hill home. 'I think it has to do with a mild winter and lots of rain.'

This daffodil variety profusely flowers with very bright, showy flowers. It is small and compact with tremendous flower power.
An ikebana vase keeps the flowers separate with a lid with holes in it. This makes it easier to replace the water and add food to the flowers.

First and foremost, creating a beautiful daffodil arrangement requires precise trimming of stems to ensure a balanced bouquet.
'Here is how you make a daffodil arrangement,' Martha begins. 'It's very nice to have your daffodils all the same length. You can see the stems are all different. I like to hold them right under the heads of the flowers, hold them up to a container – these are some old salt-glazed containers, and see approximately where I have to cut them off. Use a sharp pair of shears or a knife and just drop them into your pitcher.'

'Daffodils are hearty flowers and they last a long time once they're cut in your house,' she explains. 'Just keep the water cold and the more the merrier.'
Martha also experiments with an assortment of vases, from ceramics to glass ones? 'My favorite container of all for daffodils is this glass ginger jar,' she states. We can see why – the classic, bulbous shape and transparent finish would look fantastic on a dining room or kitchen table.
'This makes that fall planting totally worthwhile,' Martha says. We concur.
