Metallics have been trending in interiors for some time now. Bright reflective materials in silver and gold bring a certain lightness and sophistication into any room. Leave it to Martha Stewart to expand the trend to Christmas decor.
The lifestyle maven took to Instagram to share the gold Christmas tree in her green living room. The reflective conifer is adorned with gold ball ornaments in a variety of sizes, and topped with an open-concept star. Beneath the tree, she's wrapped presents in reflective gold wrapping paper for continuity. It's striking, unique, and elevated.
Luckily, the metallic look is reflective of (no pun intended) broader Christmas decor trends. In their 2024 Christmas Trend Report, handmade marketplace Etsy wrote that they noticed a 3,756% increase in searches for 'Chrome Decor.' The trends team explains: 'Shiny things just hit *different* in the glow of Christmas lights, and chrome is having a major moment this holiday season. The Chrome-mas trend is a natural evolution of summer’s playful and rebellious ‘Brat Girl’ vibe, but with a festive twist. Where Brat Girl Summer brought us bold, unapologetic fun, Chrome-mas ups the ante with sleek, futuristic surfaces that feel fresh and unexpected for the holidays.' Stewart's gold interiors take this metallic trend a step further.
Pre-Lit
This four-foot-tall Christmas tree would be the perfect addition to an office or bedroom. The gold lights and stylish stand make it easy to assemble.
Antiqued
This antique-style gold ball ornament would not look displaced on Stewart's tree. We love how this timeless hue will pair alongside hundreds of equally beautiful gold ornaments or any other tones if we want to go more eclectic this Christmas.
Versatile
Elevate your bar area with these festive star-studded old fashioned glasses from Anthropologie's Catherine Martin collection. The glasses come in a set of four and feature the collection’s signature gilded star pattern for a splash of sparkle and a nod to winter magic.
Furthermore, this Christmas decor idea can be easily integrated in your home in a variety of ways. The Etsy team says: 'Think: reflective home decor that channels "space age chic" and accessories that give you an out-of-this-world aura. Whether it’s ornaments or cocktail glasses, the high-shine finish will have you glowing brighter than your tree topper.' Though a gold tree is a great place to start, it's not where the trend finishes.
To bring the metallic look into your home, start small. The team at Etsy suggests: 'If you’re not ready to go full-on space cadet, ease into this trend with chrome accents like sleek trays or metallic ornaments that add instant cool to your cozy holiday decor.' I absolutely love the concept of an all-gold Christmas table decor. A white tablecloth with a gold centerpiece, plates, and many many tapered candles would look so elegant and seasonal, but nontraditional at the same time.
When the idea comes from Martha, we can pretty much guarantee that it's a good one. Putting your own personal spin on the look with metallic items that feel like 'you' takes it to the next level.
