Martha Stewart Makes History as Sports Illustrated's 2023 Swimsuit Cover Model

Businesswoman Martha Stewart is one of the cover models for the Sports Illustrated 2023 Swimsuit Issue, making history as the oldest person to ever grace the cover of the iconic magazine.

Stewart, who is 81 years old, is an icon in the entertainment and business world as the founder of Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia. She has amassed over a dozen Emmy awards with her media group and has written nearly 100 lifestyle books.

She said her age doesn’t constantly weigh on her, but told Sports Illustrated that it was “historic” given the context of being a cover model for the outlet.

Her net worth is estimated to be around $400 million, but she was once a member of the billionaire club.

When her company first went public in 1999, its stock rose from $18 to $38 per share which made Stewart a billionaire.

She did face adversity -- with the stock dropping to $16 in 2002, effectively removing her from the billionaire list, and, more publicly, for her five-month incarceration from 2004 to 2005 due to insider trading.

But Stewart has recovered, with her brands like Martha Stewart Kitchen reportedly pulling in 100 million users per month and $900 million annually.

She’s also deeply invested in real estate where she has about $100 million worth of assets, according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Stewart, who is both a mother and grandmother, is also a major trailblazer for women in the business space. Her success has helped change the misconception about the ability of women to become leaders of business empires.

“I was the first self-made female billionaire,” Stewart told People in 2020. “I had opposition, and that kind of opposition to a woman-built business was really outrageous. Even my own lawyers were negative about the possibility of success. I remember one lawyer sending me an orchid, saying, 'Oh, you did it. Wow. What a surprise.”
