When it comes to gardening tips and tricks, Martha Stewart has been providing us with wisdom and insight for years, but up until now, her advice has mostly come in the form of magazines, TV spots, blogs, and social media posts. That's all changing with the release of Martha Stewart's Gardening Handbook: The Essential Guide to Designing, Planting, and Growing – her first gardening book in over 30 years.

Topics covered are wide-ranging and accessible, including the nuances of careful planning, soil testing, drainage, watering and rainfall, understanding plant hardiness zones, and the art of choosing the healthiest plants for your specific climate.

'If you are a green thumb or a novice, this guide contains everything you need to make and grow a beautiful, thriving garden,' Martha states in the caption of her Instagram post, sharing the news.

Available to shop now at QVC for $34.98, the book also details how to care for a variety of plants including annuals, perennials, and bulbs, succulents and cacti, vegetable and herb gardens, as well as trees and shrubs.

In the spirit of gardening knowledge, we've dug up an essential tip from Martha's blog to get gardeners and gardeners to-be on the right track this spring.

'When it comes to creating and maintaining a healthy garden, proper soil preparation is crucial,' she states on her blog. 'Every year at my farm, we spend a good amount of time preparing the soil for planting. This includes removing debris and old root systems, tilling the earth to break up large clods, building raised, well-aerated beds, and adding organic and nutrient-rich compost.'
