Martha Plimpton on Sweat: 'Acting in London made me want to live here'

Sweat star Martha Plimpton has enjoyed her time in London so much that she has moved here.

The actress, whose career includes roles in The Good Wife and The Goonies, is currently appearing in the West End after the play moved from the Donmar Warehouse.

She plays steelworker Tracey, whose life is turned upside down when she loses her job, and shares the stage with former EastEnders actress Clare Perkins who plays her friend and colleague Cynthia.

The native New Yorker said she now has a visa allowing her to stay in the UK for five and a half years.

She said: “I’ve always loved it here but in the last months working here with these people and on this play, I just like the process here, I like the life here.”

Perkins said the play is about “how politics affects people”. She said: “It felt like a really important thing. If that factory had to close, what about the people, what about the fallout to all the families? I don’t think politicians see that.”
