St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall and GWS midfield star Tom Green are among the shock omissions from the AFL's extended All-Australian squad for 2024.
The squad of 44 players was released on Monday night, with Melbourne ruckman Max Gawn in line to win his seventh blazer.
If Gawn makes the final cut of 22, which will be announced on Thursday evening, he would be just the 10th player in the competition's history to win seven or more All-Australian awards.
Star Bulldogs skipper Marcus Bontempelli is almost certain to nab a sixth All-Australian selection.
Marshall was a shock omission after a season in which he averaged 20.7 disposals, 26.4 hitouts and 5.7 clearances to go with 15 goals.
Green also missed out despite averaging 30.6 disposals and 5.8 clearances this season.
Gold Coast clearance machine Matt Rowell and GWS skipper Toby Greene were others who failed to make the extended cut.
The selection panel consisted of chair Andrew Dillon, Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes, Abbey Holmes, Glen Jakovich, Matthew Pavlich, Laura Kane and Josh Mahoney.
Fremantle and Brisbane both had five players named in the extended squad.
The 10th-placed Dockers had Andrew Brayshaw, Jordan Clark, Luke Ryan, Caleb Serong and Hayden Young all named, but forward Josh Treacy missed out despite his career-best haul of 45 goals this year.
For Brisbane, Harris Andrews, Joe Daniher, Lachie Neale, Cam Rayner and Dayne Zorko were all named.
Patrick Cripps, Charlie Curnow, Harry McKay and Jacob Weitering were all named for Carlton, who only just scraped into the finals courtesy of Fremantle's final-round loss to Port Adelaide.
Minor premiers Sydney had Nick Blakey, Errol Gulden, Isaac Heeney and Chad Warner all named.
A total of 19 of the 44 players selected are yet to win an All-Australian berth, led by Coleman Medal winner Jesse Hogan.

Adelaide and wooden spooners Richmond were the only clubs without a player in the extended squad.
