Marsh on fire but Stoinis has last word

Mitch Marsh has hit three fours and three sixes off just 20 balls but it was not enough to secure victory for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League on Sunday.

Delhi were struggling on 2-13, after losing openers Prithvi Shaw (5) and David Warner (3) cheaply, in response to Lucknow Super Giants' 3-195 when Marsh launched his counterattack.

At the other end, Rishabh Pant hit seven fours and a six to score 44 off 30 balls.

Pant was eventually bowled by player of the match Mohsin Khan, whose four wickets cost just 16 runs.

The pair put on 60 runs off only 25 balls to resurrect Delhi's hopes, helped by some horrendous Lucknow fielding.

Marsh, who only returned to the side for Thursday's victory over Kolkata after being forced into hospital with a Covid infection, was caught in the eighth over.

Lalit Yadav soon followed but the Super Giants' fielders then dropped three catches and missed two run-out opportunities to allow Delhi to creep closer to Lucknow's total.

The final over began with Delhi requiring 21 runs to win and Axar Patel, who ended on 42 not out, leading the charge.

But Marcus Stoinis, who had earlier scored 17 not out off 16 balls for Lucknow, held his nerve and restricted Delhi to just 14 runs.

Captain Lokesh Rahul had earlier scored 77 off 51 balls to help Lucknow reach 3-195 in their 20 overs after choosing to bat first.

Lucknow's third consecutive win moves them to second in the table with 14 points from 10 games. Delhi are sixth, with eight points from nine matches.
