Mars Delight crowned UK's most-missed chocolate bar, says research

It appears people are craving the good old days as searches spike for older chocolate bars that have now been discontinued. Top of the list is Mars Delight which is reportedly the UK’s most-missed discontinued sweet treat.

UK retailer Coffee Friend conducted research by studying Google search volume for discontinued sweet snacks from yesteryear. By doing this it discovered which chocolate bar is being looked up the most.

Mars Delight had an average of 8,600 searches in the past month. This totalled to an estimated 103,200 searches for the past year, making it the most searched-for discontinued chocolate by sweet-toothed searchers taking a trip down memory lane.

It received double the number of searches that Milkybar Choo clocked up. This 90s classic white chocolate finger snack came in a very respectable second place which had 43,200 searches on average over the past 12 months.

The Mars Delight was a delicious combination of mlk chocolate, caramel and wafer. They were a hit when first introduced in 2004, however, the bars disappeared from shelves four years' later in 2008.

There was an outcry at the time from fans of the milk chocolate-wafer confection. A petition calling for the return of Mars Delight bars was launched six years' ago, which although garnered thousands of signatures, was unsuccessful.

Fans of the delightful bars went public for their love of the Mars Delight bars. Gabriel Thomas wrote on the petition page at the time: "I want these heavenly pieces of goodness back."

Alison Porter also commented: "I can't stop thinking about them. There's nothing else like them on the market. I want to taste one again."

Abbie Martin also wrote: "I'm signing [the petition] because Mars Delight is the tits" whilst Jessica Ellis said: "Please, I literally have dreams about these bars, they were my fave, you can't just take them away from my life!!"

Rounding out the top five popular sweets were other nostalgic favourites like White Malteasers, former Celebrations star Galaxy Truffle and Cadbury Spira. Other scrumptious chocolates from yesteryear were Cadbury Snaps, Cadbury Snowflake, Echo bars and Cadbury Fuse.

Here are the top chocolate bars that still continue to whet people's appetites today, along with their search volumes for the period of September 2021-2022.
