Marriott to open new city centre hotel after near three-year delay

Marriott is to open a new hotel in Manchester city centre after a near three-year delay.

The planned Residence Inn by Marriott was first announced in September 2019 and was expected to be open in late 2020.

The property in Laystall Street had been operating as The Northern Quarters Service Apartments Manchester and has been undergoing a phased refurbishment.

The new aparthotel will have 155 bedrooms over 12 floors and is now set to open in May.

Every room will include with a fully functional kitchen, featuring microwaves, single ovens, two-ring hobs, refrigerators and dishwashers.

The hotel will also have two retail spaces on the ground floor and will be Marriott's first extended-stay hotel in the north of England.

Residence Inn Manchester Piccadilly general manager Mustapha Henini said: "We are incredibly excited for the opening of Residence Inn in Manchester Piccadilly.

"This city is inviting, and our new hotel offers the perfect space for those looking for a spacious stay."

PHH UK advisor Morris Katri added: "The Ancoats and Piccadilly areas have seen significant redevelopment and investment over recent years, with Residence Inn set to add to the offering available further.

"This hotel will enhance the community with its unique long stay offering and beautiful interiors, plus bring more jobs to the area, boosting the centre’s economic growth."

Cycas Hospitality signed a deal to manage the hotel in 2019.
