A married hospital executive who planned to use surgical anesthetic to drug and rape his female staffer before her boyfriend stopped him was sentenced to four years in prison on Monday.

Gary Johnson, 63, a former operating room director at Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, California, appeared at the staffer's home in April carrying a condom, bottle of anesthetic and rag, FOX 5 reported.

Fortunately, the unidentified woman's boyfriend was home and held Johnson until police arrived, according to FOX 5. Since then, the woman said she has been "crippled with fear and anxiety," and she is "no longer the trusting, independent, adventurous and charismatic person" she once was.

Johnson told the court on Monday he "can neither explain nor justify" his actions and apologized to his wife, family and the Tri-City organization.

"I am going to go through the remainder of my life working to repair your trust and faith in me," Johnson said in his statement obtained by FOX 5.

The court also ordered Johnson register as a sex offender.
