Married couple with 37-year age gap celebrate one year anniversary despite critics

A couple are celebrating their first year anniversary after tying the knot last September, but their 37-year age gap has critics online divided.

Cheryl McGregor, 62, and her toy boy partner Quran McCain, 25, held a small wedding ceremony that was streamed on TikTok on September 3 2021. The social media video showed Cheryl walking down the aisle in a wedding dress as Quran awaited his new bride.

The couple says that they have defied the doubters as they are happier than ever just one year on from saying I do. So much so that they are not planning on having their first kid together through a surrogate.

The loved-up couple, who stay with each other in Georgia, USA, opened up to their 2.8million followers in a video that has been viewed 650,000 times, the Mirror reports.

On the video, which shows two photos of the loved-up couple, are the words "You guys will never work. She's 62 and you're 25" in speech marks, followed by "Us a year later happily married".

A caption under the video dedicated to his wife reads: "God couldn't have made you more perfect @Oliver6060."

Those commenting on the video were both congratulatory and critical of the newlyweds. One said: "Why not be happy while you can age don't matter."

Another person added: "Idc what anyone says this is relationship goals right here!! [sic]."

And a third viewer agreed: "Okay, that's kinda cute."

Meanwhile one TikTok user slammed: "No way he's being forced," as another blasted: "Isn't this illegal?"

The lovebirds first met back in 2015 when Quran was 15 as he worked at a fast-food restaurant managed by Cheryl's son Chris.

But romantic feelings didn't blossom until much later as the pair lost contact for a while before reconnecting on November 4, 2020.

It all happened when caretaker Quran saw mum-of-seven Cheryl working as a cashier at a convenience store.

Despite him being younger than one of her kids, the couple connected on multiple levels.

Their relationship took another level when Quran popped the question at an Olive Garden restaurant in July 2021 with a £2,200 ring.

Speaking earlier this year about having children, Quran said: “We have tried for children but with age, we feel surrogacy or adoption would be a better option.

“We prefer surrogacy however we have seen a lot of people embroiled in legal complications far after the child is born.

“We are looking for a nice surrogate who is willing to sign a contract to have nothing to do with the child after its born.

He added: “Both of Cheryl’s daughters had hysterectomies in the last few years otherwise they would have been the best option for being as close to a biological child as possible.”
