A woman who met her husband on Tinder when she was 18 and he was 40 has received messages saying that their relationship is "wrong." Sav and Mark, from Sydney, Australia, regularly post about their 22-year age gap relationship on TikTok.
The couple, who have now been together for five years, often joke on the app about the difference between their generations. They married in an intimate ceremony at home with their closest family and friends, the Daily Star reports.
In a clip on TikTok, Sav reflected on how she met Mark at the age of 18 when she "thought [she] would die a virgin". The TikToker then shows footage of her husband sipping on a mug of coffee and comments: "This 40-year-old MF matching with me on Tinder."
The video was uploaded with the caption "don't be mad" and the hashtags #daddy and #agegaplove - and the post has received a mixed reaction. The clip has so far received 2.1 million likes and over 13,000 comments on the app.
One user commented: "I'm not into older guys myself, but what you see in him specifically is clear as day, oh my." Another user commented: "Normalize [sic] age gaps, unless one of them is a minor. Simple as that."
Another user wrote: "I don't understand how people are so pressed about a good relationship... My parents are 25 years apart and have been together for almost 30 years."
But other users on the app were not supportive of the relationship. One user commented below the video: "My daughter's nearly 18 that's a hard HELL NO." Another user wrote: "I'm in my late thirties and it's not normal for a man in his forties to covet young girls. Period."
"That shouldn't legal," another TikTok user wrote. Someone else said: "Talk to us again a couple of years after it’s over Luv. That realization. It killed me." But, hitting back at the comment, Sav replied: "Five years on… married to him and in love, hon cheers though."
But Sav and Mark aren't the only couple on TikTok with a 20-plus year age gap. TikTok users Alexander, 24, and Rachel, 47, have the exact same age gap pf 22 years.
Alexander describes Rachel as his "soulmate" and the pair said that they have been together for more than a year. Some TikTok users have supported the couple's relationship with one writing: "Damn bro you did good! RESPECT!" However, others have jibed that he's "after her life insurance".
