Married at First Sight UK's Matt Murray skips Christmas reunion filming as he talks about heartbreaking family battle

Married at First Sight UK groom Matt Murray will not feature in the Christmas reunion episode. The barber shop owner reportedly skipped filming the festive edition to enjoy some downtime abroad.

Matt, 32, had a turbulent time on the programme which saw him end his marriage to wife Gemma Rose and embark on a whirlwind romance with Whitney Hughes. Matt and Whitney were allowed to stay in the experiment, despite not being married, and went on to confess their love for one another.

However, during an emotional reunion episode, the couple revealed they had gone their separate ways. Shortly after the difficult scenes Matt walked out of the reunion, with the experts explaining: "Matt will be bowing out of proceedings for the rest of the evening. Whitney will be staying with us but we will be respecting Matt's wishes to take some time away from the group."

After the final show, Matt jetted off to Turkey for some time away. The trip fuelled rumours of a romance with former MAFS UK star Marilyse Corrigan, who also shared holiday snaps from Turkey.

Dating rumours were quickly shut down, however, as a spokesperson for the pair told OK! Online that "there's no romance". They added: "[Marilyse] is being nothing more than a supportive friend to him whilst other friends from the show are filming the Christmas reunion." You can read more on this here.

It comes after Matt recently opened up about a heartbreaking family battle. Speaking to The Sun after the reunion show, Matt said: "Given the pressures of the show coming to a head and having to discuss my heartbreaking break up with Whitney in front of everyone, I just became overwhelmed with emotion.

"I’d recently just been told the cancer treatment mum is on now is her last hope and was having a hard time processing that information. She's my mum and no one wants to think about their parents dying. It broke me and it’s honestly the worst moment in my life, I’ve never felt like that before."

"Then add the experiment on top and it's a sure fire way for anyone to feel vulnerable and emotional." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
